I've been frazzled for weeks about what to do w/ all these FLAC Jerry Band shows I've been collecting since March when I bought this darn cpu. The damn machine set me back a pretty righteous sum.
I wasn't long finding out that improper software turns a nice looking machine into a large paper weight. This thing cane installed w/ Roxio so I thought no problem w/ my FLAC, Wrong wouldn't touch it . Downloaded Winamp, after I installed that I found out they wanted 20 bucks for the Pro ver. before that would help me (screw that I've been laid-off and need every dime I got.
Somebody said covert files using a VLC player so agian I downloaded then configured the converter nothing my updated VLC ( ver 1.0.1) wuouldnt budge, Dang it!
I was told Real Player, agian have a nice player now give me 20 bucks to make it work. At this point I was going to borrow 120 samolies to buy Nero. Knowing full well the wifey woulda crapped.
God Bless Google because after Googeling Burning Lossless to audio they tried to sell me Nero but in the corner of the page was a Free Burner program CDBurner XP , My first thought was Damn it XP I have Vista it figures. But. after a little more reading it says works w/ Vista . Cool/ Could this be my Lucky Day. I started the download it took 45 seconds went to install and got the unknown publishers warning so I scanned for Malware nothing. Cool, I crossed my fingers ( I spent 2.5 hrs the other day getting Trojans and other crap outta this thing so I didn't want more of that ) This thing installed in 39 seconds and I was pleased to find a real product.
I grabbed jg1980-07-24.ecm280.wise.21536.sbeok.flac16 , drag and dropped first 6 songs IT BURNED THEM IN UNDER 3 MIN. walked over to my Beast of a stereo an HELLO SUGAREE !
Thank you baby Jesus !

Glad you found it Hippie!
That is the one i use also...and for the same reason.
I too am currently financially challenged....aka..broke!

i haven't had a problem with it yet. I also recently discovered a feature where I can use it to make basic covers for the discs I burn by importing photos or other artwork.

Another thing if you are burning to cd is you may want to convert the FLAC/SHN files to wav. before burning onto discs. Not sure what your listening situation is..but for me, my home stereo cd player is over 20 years old. I found that it wouldn't play some of the flac files and none of the shn files. By converting to wav., you can play your discs anywhere.
You can convert the files using Traders Little Helper. (Can be downloaded free)
Took me a little bit to figure it out, but once you learn it is easy to use!

I'm hoping I get a chance to figure this convrsion thing out later today, Hopefully my 4 mon. old will cooperate. I,m not expecting miricles in that dept. though.
I recently had to replace my antiquated CD player I found a unit for under 75 bucks that seems to decode most formats.
Traders Little Helper ? I'see if I can get it rollin.
I found a "free cd/dvd cover art program like you decribed the funny thing is the free program expires in 2 more days. any ideas there?

Thanx

The cover art format I use is contained right in the burnerXP program. It's pretty basic, but it's really all I need. Most of the covers I use are ones I find on the internet that others have created and are ahppy to share.
Some folks create excellent designs...me not so much!!:)
If I can't find an already existing cover for a show I have, I'll get band pics or other related art from the internet and modify them with show info using the art program already on my computer.

If you want to go beyond the basics, there are others here that would probably be able to better help you with that.

Here is a link to an earlier thread with links to sites having a variety of CD covers.

Have fun!! Just be careful...as I figure you are already discovering...this whole process can become quite addicting!!

Learning this stuff is fun and addictting, Moderation is the key to much. I do have a lot on my plate w/ new baby and all plus a 4yr old and 2 other nearly grown children.
So knowing when to walk away from this thing is gonna save me unneeded headaches.
I'm close to having this thing down to were its not such a tedious exercise but more of another tool to put in my toolbox.
I'm a mechanic by nature and Mechanix are contastly trying to figure out how stuff worx It's a charactor flaw I think

Thank you sincerly for the advive I'll take it to heart

Peace Forumites

Another pretty good (and fast) free burning app is Burrrn! You can get it from www.download.com, probably also from www.freewarefiles.com. It has the advantage of being able to burn with no gaps between tracks.

I first used this with XP, and it handled .flac files easily. Since getting a new computer with Vista, it doesn't, and I haven't figured out why, since it lists .flac as a supported format. No matter; it's easy to convert to .wav.

CD Burner XP Pro will do the same thing, but you gotta look for the check off box to set it up.

You can also sign for a FREE version of Nero and reroute their ads into your SPAM folder. These can be set for automatic deletion too. Nero software can also burn without any gaps. You highlite the second to the last track and set the gap from 2 to 0...
